The honeysuckle bower is a special place at the Agents of Change Community House in Podriga. In the morning before the sun gets too high the housekeeper and visitors harvest the flowers to make a sweet-tasting herbal tea. The bower is a place where breaks are taken and the bees visit, drawn by the nectar. As well as being beautiful the honeysuckle is a sign of resilience. In the floods of a few years ago when all the crops of the Community House were swept away and died, only the honeysuckle and the grapevines survived. Floods, droughts, and Covid-19: the honeysuckle has overcome them all.
As has the Community House, re-opened as a place where local people can find welcome and hospitality.
